Rebrand of Unreleased RTX 4080 12GB

Nvidia has added the RTX 4070 Ti on their website ahead of today’s announcement at CES 2023. Not surprising anyone, the 4070 Ti is the unlaunched version of the RTX 4080 12GB. The new RTX 40 series card will be available for purchase January 5th, 2023 for $799.

Nvidia planned to release two versions of the RTX 4080, 12GB version and 16GB version, late in 2022 for $899 and $1199. However, vastly different performance factors between the two cards and criticisms on pricing, led Nvidia to cancel the release of the RTX 4080 12GB version. Ultimately, there was no reason to call the RTX 4080 12GB a 4080 at all, since the cards didn’t have any significant similarities under the hood.

We are waiting to hear more information from Nvidia after their official announcement at CES 2023. We will update this post as soon as we get more information. (Read our updated rumors about the RTX 50 Series)

Update: January 4, 2023 – Nvidia Announces 4070 Ti Faster Than RTX 3090 Ti

Nvidia sent a press release stating the RTX 4070 Ti is faster than the RTX 3090 Ti and will significantly outperform the latter with DLSS 3 enabled games. In some cases, the RTX 4070 Ti is almost 3x faster with game titles that are DLSS 3 enabled. The performance boost is mostly attributed to Nvidia’s new technology DLSS 3 and requires gaming developers to code the technology into their games. Which means, the raw power of the RTX 4070 Ti (DLSS 3 disabled) is not as profound when compared to the RTX 3090 Ti.

Since we don’t have 4070 Ti to test yet, we will have to wait and see how it truly compares to the RTX 3090 Ti without DLSS 3. In any case, $799 seems like a great value compared to RTX 3090 Ti’s current Amazon price at $1429.
